Essay question:
In the poem “The child who was shot dead by soldiers at Nyanga”, written by Ingrid
Jonker, the title makes us believe that the poem will be about a child who has passed
away, but the poem itself shows how the child actually lives to this day. Thus, the title of
this poem is misleading and contradictory.
Write an essay of 250-300 words discussing the validity of this statement by paying
close attention to the poem’s diction, tone, imagery and structure.
