Introduction
Hiragana is the basic Japanese alphabet and they usually don’t have meaning by
themselves. There are a total of 46 Hiragana characters. (5 vowels, 40 vowel + consonants
& 1 consonant) Hiragana characters are the most common of the three scripts because it's
used to write functional words like grammatical particles and are commonly found at the
end of adjectives and verbs*,* too. By learning hiragana, you will learn the basics of
Japanese pronunciation. Hiragana is contrary to the English alphabet. Each Hiragana
character makes 1 syllable sound.
