This week's topic is a very personal one. The definition of person-centered care to me is
healthcare customized for each patient which requires a strong patient-clinician/caregiver
relationship in order to have positive health outcomes. It is specific to the patient’s belief
regarding health treatments and how they view illness from a broad perspective. In this care
patients’ rights and beliefs are respected as they are actively involved in making health decisions.
According to the American Holistic Nurses Association (1998), holistic nursing is
described as “all nursing practice that has healing the whole person as its goal”. Caring doesn’t
just entail physiological issues but involves psychological, spiritual, cultural, and social issues.
This aspect of nursing has been explored from the beginning of the nursing profession and is
