The ghost of Christmas present:
● The purpose of the ghost of Christmas past is to show the readers what
Christmas was like for people in Victorian England.
● This ghost is very jolly and welcoming, the ghost carries a scabbard that does not
have a sword , this symbolizes that christmas should be a time of peace and a
time where all our differences should be put aside.
● The ghost sits on a throne surrounded with food of different kinds, this implies
there is plenty amount of food for everyone and this contradicts the Malthusian
view of society wich dickens did not agree with.
● He reveals the hard reality of life in Victorian England when Scrooge finds two
children ignorance and want behind the ghost, the ignorance and wants are the
problems of society, how the rich ignore the fact that poverty is a problem that
they should be helping instead they ignore this and want everything for
themselves
