what size of umbilical catheter should you use? -
☑️3.5F or 5F
after you clamp the cord how close do you cut to the skin line? -
☑️1-2cm away
is there 2 artieries and 1 vein? -
☑️yes
how far should the saline catheter be place in? -
☑️2-4cms into the umbilical vein until you get blood flow back
when is EPI admin indicated? -
☑️if the HR remains below 60bpm despite 20 seconds of PPV, administration of EPI
should be followed with 45-60 seconds of chest compressions/ventilations
What is preferred admin of EPI umbilical vein or ETT? -
☑️umbilical vein
indicated for volume expansion during resuscitation is: -
☑️-baby is not responding to resucitation
AND
-baby appears in shock
OR
-there is Hx of a condition associated with fetal blood loss (placenta previa, twin-to-twin transfusion
etc)
Recommended volume expander -
☑️-solution: N/S, ringers lactate, or O Rh-negative blood
- Dose 10ml/kg
-Route: umbilical vein
-Preparation: correct volume drawn into large syringe
-Rate: over 5-10 mins
