The Scotland County Community Youth Center is an initiative that is necessary for the successful
futures of the youth of Scotland County, NC. In my initial problem statement, I reviewed the many
reasons for the need for this initiative, including listing certain statistics as evidence to support my
claims. In this document, I will explain the various methods and instruments used to measure both the
progress and success of this project in relation to the goals and objectives.
Goals and Objectives
Improving educational achievement is one of the first and more important goals of this project
as the drop-out rates in Scotland County are high, as well as the many consequences that follow
dropping out of school. We plan to achieve this through mentoring programs, tutoring, and offering
various classes to help the youth with the educational topics they are struggling with. Another goal of
this initiative is to improve and promote healthy lifestyles. We aim to do this by addressing the drug
use/abuse issues among the youth in Scotland County, the violence, and teen pregnancy rates, as well as
other things. I have collected many news articles from over the past 3 years regarding teens involved in
shootings with other teens, that have resulted in death in Scotland County, NC. Through mentoring,
drug abuse awareness programs and events, and recreational and social activities we aim to lower these
statistics and improve healthy lifestyles.
Another goal of this project is to promote positive emotional and social development by
facilitating workshops and activities that improve social skills among their peers, family, people of
authority, and community members. We also plan to achieve this through activities that promote
emotional intelligence and mental health awareness. Some objectives we will be focused on are
engaging youth in the community, providing mentorship, fostering leadership skills, strengthening family
