About This Module Guide:
This study guide is focused on Module 1 of BMSC 207, helping you build a solid foundation in anatomy
and physiology. It features verified questions and clear, accurate answers designed to reinforce lecture
material, support self-testing, and prepare you for midterms and finals with confidence.
The ability to maintain a relatively stable internal environment in spite of exposure to external variability
- ✔✔-Homeostasis
The study of the normal functioning of an living organism and its component parts; including all its
chemical and physical processes - ✔✔-Physiology
To maintain homeostasis, the body must - ✔✔-maintain mass balance. Monitoring key functions and
variables
What is a Feed Forward Repsonse? - ✔✔-that occur before the variable changes. These are changes that
happen in anticipation of the fact that the variable will change. An example of this would be salivating
before eating any food.
What is considered the internal environment? - ✔✔-Extracellular fluid
What is negative feedback? - ✔✔-•when a variable changes and the responses enacted by the control
pathway reverse the change. In other words, if a variable increases, the homeostatic control pathway will
elicit responses that will decrease the variable.
What is Positive Feedback? - ✔✔-is a type of control pathway that is rarer than negative feedback. What
this means is that the change in a variable is exaggerated or amplified by positive feedback
What is the difference between Local and Reflexive control systems - ✔✔-Local- restricted to a local area
of body
Reflexive- wide spread across the body. nervous or endocrine system or both.
- abnormal cell growth
