Answer the following questions based on the story:

Question 1.1

Study frame seven of the above story and write a paragraph in which you discuss
whether the visuals in the story, The Man Who Never Lied, are likely or unlikely to
appeal to children below the age of six based on the colours used and style of the
visuals. You must also discuss how the visuals convey the story

that include “bright colours and bold lines” as these help make books and reading more
interesting (Unit 3, Section 1.2). In this frame, the king’s colourful kente robe, the horse’s
elaborate design, and the warm orange background work together to grab and hold a young
viewer’s attention. The characters also have exaggerated facial features and expressive
eyes, which help convey emotions and actions clearly something children can understand
even before they learn to read fluently. The study guide highlights that visuals play an
important role in helping children interpret the story and develop confidence in “reading”
pictures (Unit 3, Section 1.2).

Also, the visuals support and extend the meaning of the story. For example, the king’s
serious face, the respectful pose of Mamad, and the reaction of the onlookers all help young
readers understand the importance of this moment in the story. As stated in Unit 3, visuals
