– Double stranded helix
– Deroxyribose sugar
• Consists of a mix of 4 nucleotide bases joined by strong covalent bonds:
– Adenine
– Thymine
– Cytosine
– Guanine
• A set of 3 bases = codon (codes for a specific amino acid)
• A string of amino acids = protein
– In DNA, Adenine only joins to Thymine, Cytosine with Guanine – this
is called base pairing
