- moderate: 100mL/kg q 4-6 hours And THEN isotonic solution at 20ml/kg IV bolus

cleft lip and palate post-op care *** - avoid having infant suck on a nipple/pacifier

- avoid spoons, forks, other objects the infant may bring into the mouth that could damage incision site

- avoid straws, tongue depressors, hard pacifiers, rigid utensils, hard-tipped sippy cups, or suction
catheters after repair

- elbow restraints may be used to keep the infant from damaging repair site



cleft lip nutritional interventions *** - encourage breastfeeding

- use a wide-based nipple for bottle-feeding

- squeeze the infants cheeks together during feeding to decrease the gap



cleft palate/ cleft lip and palate nutritional interventions *** - position upright while cradling the head

- use a bottle with a 1 way valve and a specially cut nipple

- burp the infant frequently



GERD nursing plan of care *** - give PPI's (-prazole)

- sit them up after meals (HOB to 30 degrees)



GERD nutritional interventions *** - small frequent meals
