repeatable, Neural phenomena, Testable hypothesis, Predictable, Tentative.
Why is Science considered a unified endeavor? - ANS Science is universal and happens
everywhere all the time.
Compare and contrast science and technology. - ANS Science studies the natural world while
technology uses science in order to change the natural world. Technology needs science in
order to function.
What did Sir Isaac Newton mean when he stated, "If I have seen a little further, it is by standing
on the shoulders of giants"? - ANS Science is passed down throughout time and allows
scientists to build off of their predecessors.

be very applicable to everyday life in order to get the best results.
Why must all three aspects of science be addressed in a successful science education program?
- ANS Because all of the aspects work as a protocol in order to obtain the best results.

, Describe several characteristics of a well-designed experiment. - ANS That it follows the
scientific method and that it has a good control as well as a dependent and independent
variable.
In an experiment designed to test the effects of outboard motor oil on the growth of algae,
identify the control, the independent variable, and the dependent variables. Construct a simple
hypothesis. - ANS Control-No oil
Independent variable- Motor Oil
Dependent Variable- Algae Growth
Hypothesis- The motor oil will stunt algae growth.
The term "theory" is often used in everyday life, yet the scientific method involves the
formulation of hypothesis. Describe how the term theory is misused in everyday life. -
ANS People act as though a "theory" has no scientfic basis while in fact it has been tested
and is backed by facts through research.

unknown. Scientists cannot add that to the equation.
Why is a fundamental knowledge of biology necessary for everyone? - ANS In order to
understand how life operates and to be able to improve our lives based on that knowledge.

Compare and contrast an acid and a base, and provide an example of each. - ANS Acid- Sour,
Low on pH scale, Turns litmus paper red. Example: HCl
Base- Bitter, High on pH scale, Turns litmus paper Blue. Example: KOH
