Foundations of biology:
Themes of Life
A) Interaction
The ability to be stimulated. They are able to interact with
other situations or things. Having a predictable way of
reaction. Response maintains homeostasis. Homeostasis is the
biological “ready state”.
B) Transfer energy or matter
All living things utilize chemical energy. All atoms form bonds that can store alot of
energy. Producers convert sources of energy such as solar energy, into energy. Consumers
get their energy from other livings creatures.
C) Information
Al living things contain n information molecule called DNA. Genes
are units of inheritance, and each gene is a section of DNA. DNA
provides the blueprint that makes protein.
D) Organization
There are levels or organization. The smallest being a molecule, which make up organelles,
which makes cells, which makes up tissue, which makes organs, which makes an
organisms, population, communities, ecosystems, and the largest being the biosphere. New
properties that appear at each new level of organization.
