Fine motor abilities that involve using the smaller muscles in the fingers and hand for actions
such as holding a pencil or fastening buttons, only develop after gross motor abilities, such as
crawling, jumping, and running.
Develop an activity that will allow children to develop gross motor skills. List the
resources that you will need when developing the activity, explain how you will set up
the activity to allow for the development of gross motor skills. Take a photo of the
activity and paste it on the space provided.

1.1 Activity to Develop Gross Motor Skills
Activity Title: Animal Adventure Obstacle Course
Activity Description
Children will engage in an outdoor obstacle course where they move like different animals to
develop their gross motor skills. This game will include running, crawling, jumping, balancing,
and hopping all promoting the development of large muscle groups.
,Objective
To develop gross motor skills such as coordination, balance, muscle strength, and control
through imaginative play and physical movement.
Instructions:
Set up a playful "safari adventure" where children imitate various animals as they navigate
through different stations:
Bear Crawl Tunnel -Crawl through a short tunnel or under chairs.
Frog Hops - Hop on two feet like frogs from one mat to another.
Kangaroo Jump - Jump forward using both feet together over pool noodles.
Flamingo Balance -Stand on one leg for 10 seconds on a balance board or mat.
Cheetah Run - Run around a set of cones as fast as they can.
Monkey Climb - Climb over a soft foam block or jungle gym.
Resources Needed:
Cones or markers
Mats or foam blocks
Chairs or tunnels
Pool noodles for jumping over
Balance beam or thick rope
Animal picture cards optional for imagination and guidance
Setup Instructions
Outdoor or indoor space-Choose an open area such as a field, gym, or large classroom.
Station Signs-Use cardboard signs or printed visuals to label each animal and movement
station.
Safety Checks-Ensure mats are used for crawling or climbing, and space is clear of hazards.
