Escherichia coli
E coli/ Escherichia coli is a gram-negative
rod-shaped bacterium which is found in the
intestine of humans and animals.
Most E coli are not dangerous but some
strains, Shiga toxin producing E.coli (STEC)
can be, and they tend to cause food
poisoning when ingested.
You can find many of these strains in raw or
undercooked meats, raw milk, unfiltered
water and vegetables that are not cleaned
properly.
