§ Psychological factors: anxiety, depression, stress
§ Sociocultural factors: health literacy, cultural considerations,
socioeconomic considerations
§ Learner factors: learning needs, readiness to learn, learning style
§ Most important parts:
· What do they already know?
· What is their baseline level of knowledge?
· What do they WANT to know?
o Diagnosis
§ Decide WHAT will be taught
o Planning
§ Setting goals, selecting teaching strategies, learning materials
o Implementation
§ Always involve caregivers when possible and provide positive feedback
o Evaluation
§ May include direct observation, observation of verbal and non-verbal
