Part One: Choose the Creative Works
[The topic I chose for this project proposal would have to be mental health, since it has a big impact on
society today and an issue, we’re still facing that we can all relate to. A visual work, “Henry Ford
Hospital” by Frida Kahlo paints Frida’s experience and traumatic incident due to miscarriage. A literary
work, “Take Me Away” by Plain White T’s expresses a rollercoaster of emotions about handling breakups
in relationships and self-control. Both creative works are great attachments to mental health that paint
meaningful messages and connect with their audience who can relate.
It is an important topic to general society that will remain until improved and minimized. It is an issue
that leads to many consequences if not treated. I am a living example of this and continue to face
challenges with my mental health every day. I’m a fulltime college student and work fulltime, and I tend
to lose sleep every night finding ways to excel myself and help others. I tend to put others before me in
return of nothing, sometimes a headache in exchange. I don’t complain or expect much now and tend to
move on for the sake of my mental health, but back then I really struggled to find a way to help myself
and overcome stressful situations thrown at me. I’m young myself, but as much as stress affected my
mental health, I slowly learned about myself and found my ways which lead to me helping those around
me that can relate to what I went through.]
[Mental health is an important topic to all of society that will remain until improved and minimized. For
some it brings character and for many it breaks character. I experienced both through my life countless
of times and still counting, also learned from others experience in their lives. It should be normalized to
speak about your mental struggles and your weaknesses, but with the right audience of people. For me
it was my lifelong friends and my mother. As much as we think sometimes, we can do everything and
handle many things ourselves, we cannot, we’re only human, and just as vulnerable. My suggestion to
all is to not bottle-up your problems and situations that will lead to mental health problems and
eventually destruction of yourself or others around you. Utilize your resources around you from
environment, people, and small things that only you know that will fix your problem or minimize the
situation. For the sake of your mental health.]
Part Two: Self and Society
[The visual work “Henry Ford Hospital” by Frida Kahlo paints an artwork on her experience of maternal
loss due to miscarriage of her second child. The incident has depicted her trauma not only physically,
but overall, mentally. The literary work “Take Me Away” by Plain White T’s breaks down his experience
of heartbreak and confusion, while remedying the situation with self-control and through music for the
sake of his mental health.]
[The creative works have reached out to millions of individuals all over the world that struggled and
helped relate their situations through their creative works that sent a valuable message regarding the
importance of mental health and to take it in serious matters.]
