o In legal terms - a civil wrong for which you can sue someone -
can get a remedy for what has been done to you
 A civil wrong for which the law provides a remedy to the

o General remedy is monetary damages - remedy can be in other
form - but main is damages
 Difference between criminal and tort - citation - tort example Jones v
Myers => person against person




 Law of obligations - contract and tort
o Contract - mostly in business settings vs tort - mostly in civil
settings
 Main focus remains on the enforcement of promises
between the contracting parties => breach of contract =>
seeks to put back the claimant in the situation he/she
would have been had the contract not been breached
o Tort - aims to protect the interests of others in society against
various wrongs - protect body integrity
