This experiment is for lab manual Physics 2, De Huai Chen, it contains the whole lab report, answers and data included. This includes experiment 2. Practice in series and parallel connections, practice on the use of digital multimeter and light bulbs in series and parallel connections.. I received a 19.5 out of 20 on this experiment and ended with an A in the class.

Experi ment 2 : Resistors in series and parallel connections Lab Date: 07/04/2020 Report Date: 07/10/2020 Melany Rodriguez TA: Kalpani Nisansala Udeni Galpayage Dona Section 00 4 PURPOSE The purp ose of this experi ment i s to practice on the us e of di gital multimeter and light bulbs in series an d parallel connections. THEORY When applied across a conductor , a voltage or potential difference and the current in the conductor is found to be prop ortional to the voltage. This experiment is based on Ohm ’s Law when determining resistance of a resistor by using a ratio of potenti al difference and electric current. The ratio of the applied vol tage a nd the resulting current is defined as resistance of the conductor , which offers resistance to the current called resistors. These are connected from head to tail . The change in ele ctric energy per unit time is called electric power. In a series circu it, the first resistor output current flows into the second resist or’s input, meaning the current is the same in each resistor . In a parallel circu it the resistor leads on one side of t he resistors and are connected . All the leads on the other side are con nected to gether. EXPERIMENTAL METHOD Mate rials: One digital multimeter ( DMM), D C power supply with a 5V adaptor (#1), DC power supply (#2), four light bulbs with sockets, banana connectors, and demo box of resistors. Measurement 1: 1. Check that the DC sup ply power #1 is off. Connect the circuit. 2. Turn on the DC power supply #1. 3. Record the DMM readi ng and the observed bulbs ’ brightness. 4. Turn off the DC p ower supply #1. 5. Repeat steps 1 -4 for circuit in fig . 4 (b). 6. Repeat steps 1 -4 for circuit in fig . 4 (c). 7. Repeat steps 1 -4 for circuit in fig . 4 (d). 8. Repeat steps 1 -4 for circuit in fig . 4 (d). but with one bu lb remo ved from its socket. Measurement 2: 1. Make sure the DC power suppl y #1 is off and con nect the circuit shown in Fig 5. 2. Turn on the power supply #1. 3. Record the DMM reading and the observed bulbs ’ brightness in Table 2. 4. Turn off the DC power supply #1 . 5. Repeat steps 1 -4 for c ircuit in fi g. 5 (b). 6. Repeat steps 1 -4 for c ircuit in fi g. 5 (c). 7. Repeat steps 1 -4 for c ircuit in fi g. 5 (d). 8. Repeat steps 1 -4 for circuit in fi g. 5 (d), but with one bulb is remo ved fr om it s socket. Measurement 3: 1. Make sure the D C power supply #1 is off and connect the circuit shown in F ig 6. 2. Turn o n the D C power supply #1.
