Application Deadlines for the exam - Correct Answers -The NCTRC certification exam is
offered every two months and has a rolling admission registration period.
The exam is offered the first two full weeks in January, March, May, July, September,
and November.

When you apply for 'professional eligibility' to sit for the exam: - Correct Answers -
Submit a completed application. If your application is incomplete it will be returned to
you and your requested test date may be postponed until the next available test period.

There are two paths to professional certification as a CTRS: - Correct Answers -the
academic path and the equivalency path.

The Test Format: - Correct Answers -The base test is completed by all candidates and
consists of 90 questions for which you have 86 minutes. You are permitted to move
back and forth within the base test, but the base test may not be reviewed once it has
been exited.

Upon completion of the base test of 90 questions, you will receive: - Correct Answers --
a passing score ending the exam;
- a failing score ending the exam; or
- a score that falls in a range that is neither failing nor passing and you will move to
another section and take one or more 'testlets'

If your score is between pass and fail you will complete testlets: - Correct Answers -The
additional sections are called "testlets", each containing 15 questions and lasting for 14
minutes. You are permitted to move back and forth within each testlet, but each testlet
may not be reviewed once it has been exited.

Eligibility requirements: - Correct Answers -The Academic Path eligibility requirements
to take the CTRS exam are a baccalaureate degree or higher from an accredited
college or university with a major in therapeutic recreation or a major in recreation or
leisure with an option in therapeutic recreation.

Course Requirements - Academic Path - Correct Answers -A minimum of 18 semester
or 24 quarter hours of therapeutic recreation and general recreation content coursework

, with no less than a minimum of 15 semester or 20 quarter hours in therapeutic
recreation content.

Field Placement (Internship) - Correct Answers -A minimum 560-hour, 14 consecutive
week* field placement experience in therapeutic recreation services that uses the
therapeutic recreation process as defined by the current NCTRC Job Analysis Study
(handout) under the supervision of both academic and agency field placement
supervisors who are NCTRC CTRS certified. Do not count the time taken for lunch or
breaks in the total weekly hours.
*(NOTE: WSU = 600 hour/15 week)

When can I do my internship? - Correct Answers -An acceptable field placement
experience is one which is completed after the majority of required therapeutic
recreation and general recreation coursework is completed as verified on the official
transcript and the required fieldwork verification form.
*(NOTE: We encourage all req. courses to be completed but never allow more than
two.)

Applying before you graduate is an option under the following conditions: - Correct
Answers -1. Enrollment in a TR degree program
2. Completion of a minimum of 90 credit hours toward degree attainment.
3. Completion of all required coursework other than the field placement requirement.
4. Submission of an official academic transcript denoting the completion of the above
requirements.

Academic Path Applicants will obtain CTRS credential upon: - Correct Answers -1.
Successful completion of the NCTRC exam.
2. Completion of a field placement experience in accordance with NCTRC Standards.
3. Academic degree attainment as documented by an official academic transcript.

4. Field Placement Verification forms signed by both academic and agency field
placement supervisors.

Standards Change!!!! - Correct Answers -- CTRS Certification Standards, including
examination eligibility standards are periodically evaluated and revised.
- A change in the Certification Standards which makes it more difficult to attain
certification is announced two years prior to being implemented in the certification
review process.

TR/RT Course Content: - Correct Answers -Is generally interpreted as having a
theoretical and/or philosophical focus of study. Skill, activity, practicum, or internship
courses do not fulfill the requirements for content courses. (ex: OP, Festivals)
