, Social work is concerned with the well-being of people and their environments.

Throughout the MWS program, I have learned multiple approaches for solving social problems.

Other than the theoretical aspect of social work, the MWS program has exposed me to real-life

scenarios that require the application of social work knowledge. According to Healy (2022),

social work requires a good understanding of the human context, developing a practice

framework to solve the social problem, and adhering to ethical and legal considerations. During

my placement, I was privileged to work with the Hope team and interact with a patient with

suicidal ideation at St. Vincent Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. According to Dickson et al.

(2019), suicidal ideation is a significant social problem in Australia, especially among the

Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander population, affecting nearly 12% of every 100,000

people annually. Other than its immediate effect on individuals, the impact of suicide is spread

across families and communities. Therefore, this reflective paper describes the suicidal ideation

case, the assessment and practice interventions for suicidal ideation, and the integration of the

intervention into my MWS program.

reported an increase in suicide ideation as well as occasional command hallucinations begging

him to terminate his life. He self-reported an increase in suicidal thoughts as well as recent

attempts to kill himself in the bathtub by placing a plastic bag over his head. These were in

relation to the persistent pain he has been enduring after a serious vehicle accident in April 2021.

His Pain Management Service psychologist advised him to present himself to the RMH ED,
