Scholarly Examples of Disruptive Innovations that Improved Healthcare
Telemedicine is one disruptive innovation that has offered patients convenience in their
homes. Telemedicine makes it easier to monitor discharged patients and manage their recovery
(Haleem et al.,
2021). It is described as a medical practitioner to diagnose and treat patients in a remote area. Apps are
used to schedule follow-up visits and has shown to reduce missed appointments. Through this
innovation patients can show the doctor any prominent rashes or bruises through excellent quality
audio-video system (Haleem et al., 2021). The patient and provider save time and cost of health care is
reduce with telemedicine. Patient can avoid taking off from work or finding childcare services with the
use of telemedicine. Telemedicine also decreases the spread of contagious conditions like Covid.
Clinician may find it beneficial because they may be able to take care of more patients without hiring
more employees. Telemedicine allows patients living in rural area easier access to care. Systems can
relay data over large distances; practitioners can collaborate without being in the same room (Haleem
,et al., 2021). Healthcare records such as imaging, blood analysis, and other data can be exchanged in
real time. AI-enabled telemedicine automatically interprets patient data and allows physicians to
respond faster.
The next disruptive innovation is Robotics, specifically robotic surgery. It was designed to
enhance the quality of care for patients (Tan et al., 2016). Puma 560 was first used over 30 years ago in
a clinical setting to obtain neurological biopsies. That opened a window for advanced surgical robots to
be used in other operative procedures and anatomical targets. These innovations contribute to greater
operative precision, which leads to better patient outcomes (Tan et al., 2016). The aim of using
surgical robots is the following: reliable execution, improved stability, smaller incisions, and enhanced
surgeon ergonomics. Robotic surgery has contributed to reduce blood loss and reduce need for blood
transfusion.

How the Nurse Innovator Demonstrates a Role in Conceptual Model
The Master prepared Nurse as manager of the Healing Environment participates in global
social, cultural, political, and economic issues (Western Governors University, 2021). In addition, is
an advocate for social justice for the improvement of patient’s health. One example of this would be a
nurse innovator becomes the nurse manager for a medical surgical unit. Lately, the unit has being
taking care of more Spanish immigrants than usual. The nurse manager holds a unit meeting and staff
complains of not having the appropriate devices to utilize the hospital translation services. The nurse
manager reviews the budget and finds that there are funds to purchase at least two devices for
translation services. Although, the goal is to have four devices because the unit is large and patient
treatment can possibly be delayed, if another nurse is using it especially during an admission or
discharge. To get two more devices the nurse manger advocates these concerns to upper management
and explains the importance of clear communication between staff and patients. As, result of the
units’ budget is expanded and two more devices were purchased. In addition, patients’ satisfaction
scores increased, patient safety measures improved, and staff productivity increased.

Big data can provide insight into risk factors that lead to disease, this is gathered through
mobile health applications (Price & Cohen, 2019) This data can be used to prompt changes in
behaviors that
can reduce health risk, harmful environmental exposures and optimize health outcomes. One benefit of
