1- Description of the Curriculum
Title: Reveal Math
Creator: McGraw Hill
Content Area: Math
Grade: Kindergarten
Goals: The goal for Reveal Math is to provide a high-quality math curriculum
to meet the needs of the students. Students will use both concrete and
abstract strategies to count, compare, compose, and decompose numbers.
They will learn to understand and think about math problems as they
discover number, shape, and measurement ideas.

Context
a. Reveal Math is a new curriculum adopted by my county for the 2023-2024
school year. I have been teaching kindergarten for 12 years. This was the
first-year teaching Reveal and the problem I would address is the sequence
in which skills are presented. Teen numbers are not introduced until the
spring. Students begin adding and subtracting numbers without ever being
introduced to teen numbers. Teen numbers are difficult for students to

time and get confused when counting from 1-20, and cannot recognize teen
numbers, especially those numbers that don’t end in “teen”, like eleven and
twelve.
The first component in Reveal Math curriculum that can address the problem
outlined above is the “number routines”. The number routine portion of the
lesson is found at the beginning of each lesson and helps students build
number sense. It also helps students develop the thinking habits of mind
that are important for proficient doers of math. During number sense,
students are presented with an image and a prompt that has them think
