SWM1 Task 1: Solutions for E-Learning Challenges
Introduction
Learning designers need to understand the challenges adult learners encounter in an e-learning
environment. Designers need to know and address these challenges to make improvements.
Adult learners face challenges: time management, aging and cognition, technology challenges,
lack of interest, and prior experience and knowledge. Understanding the challenges will help
designers create a more effective e-learning environment.
Challenge #1
A challenge that adult learners experience during e-learning is time management. As an adult
student, it’s crucial to set realistic goals and prioritize tasks to effectively manage your time.
(Landry, 2023) Time management can be complex for adult learners as most adults work.
Personal issues, such as family time, must be met, which is one of the main issues in many
households today. Identifying the purpose and benefits of striving to complete an online
education program will help with student success.
Instructional designers should create an environment that includes realistic goals and allows
learners flexibility. Providing learners with the tools to set goals and plan effectively will help
them keep track of the tasks they complete. As an adult student, it can be challenging to balance
academics, work, and personal life. One effective time management technique is to create a
schedule and use time-blocking strategies. (Landry, 2023)
Challenge #2
Aging and cognition can affect e-learning. Adult learners vary in age, and remembering
information can be difficult. Issues with hearing loss, vision loss, and other age-related problems
can make it more difficult. Processing information and learning different skills can be a struggle
