history of warnings and recommendations concerning the need to develop a
multicultural perspective in the counseling profession”? Do you believe the warnings
and recommendations by organizations mentioned in the article were warranted? Cite
examples from the article to complete your answer and explain why you think it is

Sue, Arredondo, & McDavis (1992) are worried due to the fact that counselors are not
being properly educated on multicultural perspectives in the behavioral health field.
This article discusses the conferences held by both the American Association
for Counseling and Development and American Psychological
Association that talked about a serious lack of training in dealing
with “racial, ethnic, and cultural matters” (Sue, Arrendando &
McDavis, 1992).
These warnings are to be listened to especially by counselors
going into this profession because your cultural background
effects your own personal bias and worldview, bleeding into your
counseling style. So, when the behavioral health field is made up
of white people and their value system who are not properly
educated, it makes it difficult for others to seek mental health
treatment.
