Couples and Divorce Interview
Interview Questions and Answers:
• What do you think is the main cause of your divorce?
o “My divorce was the result of years of verbal abuse that culminated in a
physical altercation that became my last straw.”
• What effect, if any, did your divorce have on your children?
o “My kids had to visit their biological father every other weekend. They hated it.
He continued his abusive behavior, but against them instead of against me. As a
result, they both struggle to form any true friendships, loud and crowded spaces.
They are both coming around now that they don’t have to see him and more
memories seem to be.’
• How has the divorce affected you?
o “The divorce has not been as traumatic for me as the actual marriage was. I found
myself after divorce. I found a way to accept myself, mistakes and all. Although,
it took me a LONG time to find that comfort, the important part was in the
finding my peace.”
• Tell me about your experience in family court.
o “My experience with family court was not typical. When I filed for divorce, I
filed for a restraining order at the same time. A TRO was granted – temporary
restraining order. This meant we had to go to court first for the restraining
order and then for custody. The TRO ended up being dropped with him
agreeing to parenting classes and anger management. By the time we finally
made it to divorce court, 6 months had passed, and I was very ready to be
divorced.
