2. How does the VCPR differ for companion animals vs herd animals/groups of
companion animals Ans: -with herds/groups of companion animals
(shelters/breed- ers etc) the vet does not need to examine EVERY ANIMAL on the
property BUT should have:
-current ustdg of the level of husbandry practiced on the premises
-current ustdg of the client's abilities with respect to recog symp of dz/admin drugs/tx
plans
-devo spec protocols with client to ensure that drugs are used appropriately and
safely
3. What is Marketing? (as defined by Regulation 1093) Ans: The activity of
promoting one's services to members of the general public or any segment of the
public eg. public appearances, press releases, directory listings etc.

marketing that might be defined as any message communicated in any public
medium to promote a member's professional services, goods, practice or image.
5. What is a Client? (as defined by Regulation 1093) Ans: Someone who

frequency, and who has not requested the transfer of records for his/her
animal(s) to another member or otherwise has had the relationship terminated.

or dignity of the profession or to bring the profession in to disrepute

interest of a person conflicting with that person's professional responsibilities -
may involve financial gain recieved in return for completing an activity that
conflicts with the individual's professional activities.

referred or directed to a particular veterinarian or veterinary practice by another
individual or organization - the recommendation is made for a reason other than the
best interests of the animal
9. What are the 4 tests for defining a Steering relationship Ans: 1) there must
be a system (ie structured agreement/ongoing activity or pattern of behaviour)
2) the system must result in clients being directed to a particular vet/vet practice for
professional/ancillary service
3) the vet must knowingly participate in the system in some way
4) there is either a conferral fo some benefit to the referrer OR a restriction on which
vets may participate in the system (beyond reasonable restrictions eg locations/spe-
cializations or scope of practice)
