PART I
Which imperialist action was the United States the most justified in doing? Why?
Purchasing Alaska- one of the greatest purchase because Alaska is rich in
minerals, timber and oil
Big Stick Diplomacy (Roosevelt’s Corollary)- When America became the national
police power (Imperialism, slide 9/64)
The two examples above shows that America’s imperialism did not just benefit its
own country but the other countries that are involved. E.g. Alaska profited from
exporting minerals, oil and timber the state is rich with. E.g. International countries
experienced peace and order with the help and involvement of the US. Therefore,
this imperialist action is most justified.
Which imperialist action was the United States the least justified in doing? Why?
Hawaii- Where merchants stop on their way to China for refueling, and for sugar
planters to sell their crops to the US. (Imperialism, slide 20/64).
- Overthrow was planned, January 1893, Americans living in Hawaii revolted
against Queen (Imperialism, slide 21/64)
- John L Stevens ordered marines USS Boston to land for the “protection” of
American life and property. Queen Liliuokalani surrendered the throne.
(Imperialism, slide 22/64)
- Against the “moral diplomacy” of democracy (Imperialism, 24/64)
The examples above were the least justified imperialist action because it violated
the rights of local natives of Hawaii. I personally think that this could’ve been
resolved with compromise of the two nations involved.
