Topic 7 DQ 1
Compare and contrast the types and applications of oral and visual presentation. Describe
which applications you will be using for your presentation. Discuss why you are choosing
these methods, and why they will be best for your audience.
There are four different types of oral presentation which is: informative, demonstrative,
persuasive, and inspirational. Where visual presentation includes: whiteboards, plip charts, paper
handouts, video, video conferencing, and slides/posters. The main difference between both types
of presentation is that oral is a way to communicate ideas auditorily to an audience, with a
specific purpose in mind. And visual presentation is more interactive experience. Presentations
are about giving the information in a way that appeals to the audience, rather than necessarily
speaking the information. It presents clarity, involvement of the audience, and it adds an impact
and interest to the presentation. That is the reason why I’m choosing visual presentation for my
audience, presenting the facts and possible outcomes allow them to draw their own conclusion
and participate in the process by asking question and peeking their minds. “The ability to present
a message effectively shapes your ability to influence others, motivate and inspire lasting
change, and demonstrate your expertise. These are vital skills for a range of situations, from
delivering training sessions or presenting the year-end performance results to your boss to
proposing a shift in strategy to your client. Adding visuals-illustrations, photographs, diagrams,
flowcharts, tables, and the like-to your presentations helps your audience literally see your point
and when they see your point, they understand your message more clearly” (Corbett, 2015).

Prof. Matson,
I think that knowing how you want your audience to feel will focus your image search.
Identifying the emotion, you want to produce will guide you to hunt for images that elicit that
emotion. Visual interpretation of information can maximize the effectiveness by making sure
that the elements are presented as clearly as possible. The more complex and detailed the
information is, the more important the information will be. If used well, visual presentation will
support the presentation by strengthening audience involvement and impact. What are some tips
you recommend when you want your audience to feel your point of view?
