The Issue: The Rising Cost Of Health Care
The rising cost of health care has always been an issue and I fear it will continue to be for
many more years to come. In the recent years it has become common knowledge that the United
States has the highest cost of health care as opposed to any other countries. According to the
Peter G. Peterson Foundation website back in 2021 the United States health care spending
amount reached $4.3 trillion (Peterson Foundation, 2023)! That incredibly high amount of
money averages about $12,900 a person. As we are all well aware COVID-19 played a big part
in why so many things have changed for us today within health care. These things being health
rules like wearing masks and staying six feet apart, telehealth and of course, the rising cost of
health care. Over the last several decades health care costs have only managed to increase and
between the times 1960 to 2021 there has been a 13% increase in the cost of health care! Health
care spending continues to increase because of an aging population, which of course will not stop
and the infamous increase in the cost of health care services.
The Rising Cost of Health Care: Who Is Affected?
The answer here is common sense, us, the Americans are incredibly and undoubtedly
affected by the rising costs of health care! Taking the proper care of yourself has become
extremely costly. So much so that people are forced to decide whether or not they need to be
treated simply because they cannot afford it. This decision can be deciphered by a non-insurance
holder and even an insurance holder. You have to remember not all insurances are the same and
they do not all cover the same thing, while some places will take your insurance for one thing
another might not for that very same problem. Certain health issues will end up determining
how much it is and some of the costliest of health care services sadly have to do with personal
battles with one self, such as mental issues.
