In 1994, Michael Jordan famously said that there is no ‘I’ in team. This phrase is
commonly used as a reminder that working together as part of a team increases
the effectiveness of the group’s objectives, and in achieving the same common
goal.
Individuals who come together to create a team should be able to set aside their
personal ambitions and interests to prioritise the team’s objectives, support one
another and collaborate effectively to overcome obstacles.
Team building in a sport and exercise setting is important to improve
cohesiveness and teamwork, the collaboration of sport and exercise
professionals with athletes, coaches, nutritionist, psychologist, etc. will create an
environment where they can work together to overcome obstacles by finding
solutions and increase the chance of the team’s success.
Incorporating multi-disciplinary working are ways in which teamwork can be
improved. Bringing people together, sharing ideas, responsibilities, and decision
making, enhances the experience of the team and creates opportunities to fulfil a
shared vision.
These are all important factors when team building and encouraging teamwork
within a multi-disciplinary environment.
