FLSS
Anger is anormal healthy emotion!
- Expressing anger inappropriately is what is unacceptable
- Empathize with pts so that it doesn’t reach that point
- Give pts plenty of space
- Restraints are your last resort (Seclusion then restraints or sometime together
- Show of force is when pts act out and more people (like security) come just to be there
o Every 4 hours
o If put in restraints, within an hour a HCP must come in to assess
Suicidal Clients
- Sincere when making promises to not harm self.
- Most important thing to do is get a 1-on-1 and be within arms length
- Psychomotorretardation and difficult to make decisions
- Establish trust and therapeutic relationships by offering self
- Not obligated to talk- just sitting there and being worthwhile and effortful
Crises
- Emergency crisis: psychiatric and overwhelmed mentally by something
- Maturational crisis: retired and children move away etc.
- Situational: something special or whether or something
Client Rights
- 3 times when you can breach client confidentiality
o Someone is in danger
o When pt themselves gives you permission to share information
o When legal matter comes into play
- We never keep secretes
- Taking action is still considered an action
- They can refuse medications unless by law bc patient is unable to make decisions themselves
- Commits by patients
o Voluntary is when they can sign out themselves because they are mentally all there
o Involuntary: Files mental hygiene papers which grants temporary hold for commitment (if
they have capacity or if they’re a danger to themselves or others)
Boundaries
- Transcendence is when a pt sees something in you (the rn) that could be good or bad
- Counter-transference is when seeing something in a patient that reminds them of a personal
experience
Nontherapeutic techniques (don’t do)
- Giving advice
- Approving or disapproving of something
- Medical terminology or pt confidentiality is only to be done by medical service interpretation
