1. How does dementia related psychosis differ than
other types of psychosis?

Psychosis is seen in different kinds of dementias. It is
characterized by hallucination, more visual than auditory
hallucination unlike schizophrenia where hallucinations are
more auditory than visual.
Delusions may be present. Psychosis is seen when the
dementia is advanced. Severity of psychosis is based on the
types of dementia.



2. Differentiate the clinical presentations of
psychosis in clients with the four different types of
dementia.

Psychosis is seen in Alzheimer’s’ disease dementia, Parkinson’s
disease dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia
and vascular dementia. 20-30% of the patients with Alzheimer’s
disease dementia experience hallucinations and 30-40% experience
delusions (Boland et al., 2022). Physical aggression may be seen
with psychotic features. More than 50% of people with Parkinson’s
disease have dementia with psychosis. If patient develop
parkinsonian symptoms and dementia in a year difference, its
Parkinson’s disease dementia whereas if they develop parkinsonian
symptoms and dementia within a year, its Lewy body dementia. ¾
of people suffering from Lewy body dementia will have some kind of
psychosis. Visual hallucinations are common in Parkinson’s disease
dementia and Lewy body dementia (Burstein, 2021). 5-10%. of
patient with Frontotemporal dementia presents with both delusions
and hallucinations and 15% of Vascular dementia presents with
psychotic features. Delusions are common in vascular dementia.




3. Discuss a minimum of two possible approaches to
treatment for dementia related psychosis, select
a minimum of one pharmacological and one
nonpharmacological approach.

Before starting the treatment, other medical or psychiatric
causes of psychosis should be ruled out through detailed
history taking and diagnostic tests.
