3. Complete the discussion. Refer to the screenshot of your
results to recall how you rated your skill
proficiency/competency in the Self- Assessment.
Address the discussion questions below by using your self-appraisal
proficiency/competency skill ratings identified on the TANIC Self-
Assessment.
a. Discuss how your perceived competency level in informatics
compared to your pre-TANIC Self-Assessment responses.
b. Describe two competencies identified as strengths.
c. Describe two competencies identified as growth
opportunities. d. Describe at least two strategies to
enhance your competencies. e. Identify resources to
support your selected strategies.
Upon completion of the TANIC Self-Assessment, the competency level for informatics was
surprisingly higher than had been perceived. Initially, underestimating abilities, particularly in
areas such as navigating email domains. There is a solid understanding of email systems,
including managing settings, filters, and effective communication practices. Also, there is a
comfortableness with general computer usage, including file organization, folder navigation, and
software applications that aid in productivity. This realization is a confidence booster and serves
as motivation for further improvement.
Although it may feel minute, opportunities for growth are restoring files from the recycle bin
and recycling computer parts. Improving skills in data recovery and understanding hardware
recycling can enhance your technical proficiency. In addition, running reports and analyzing
data is another area that can be intimidating. Improving skills in this area can enhance decision-
making and patient outcomes as a nurse leader.
