What should you do if a child has a bruise?
Answer: Use a cold compress to minimize swelling and pain. (Note that
bruises that can be the result of serioustrauma, particularly to the abdomen
and back, could be serious and result in internal bleeding.)
Signs of a broken bone include:
Answer: If you hear a snap or grinding sound at thetime of the injury
If the injured area looks deformed (sometimes the broken bone may puncture
theskin)
If there is swelling and bruising around the affected area
If the child cannot bear weight, use, apply pressure to, or move the limb
What Should you do if a child has a minor cut or illness that does not cause
moderate discomfort or require immediate medical attention?
Answer: Apply first aidand notify parents by the end of the day.
What Should you do if a child has a moderate cut or injury, vomiting, di-
arrhea, elevated temperature, or symptoms of moderate discomfort?
Answer: Notifyparents immediately and get instructions until the child can
be picked up
What Should you do if a child has severe bleeding, allergic reaction, in- jury
leading to unconsciousness, or symptoms of severe discomfort?
Answer: Seekemergency medical treatment immediately and notify parents as
soon as possible.
