Positive Parenting Plan
“As children increasingly become their own persons, their upbringing can be a complex
challenge”, (Martorell, G., Papalia, D., & Feldman, R.). There are many different personality
types that children can grow to have based on the way they have been disciplined and parented.
Children are like sponges. They pick up and learn things they see, and act based on their own
parents’ teachings. This paper will discuss different parenting styles and different parenting
plans.
Parenting Styles and Effect
There are a total of three different types of parenting styles. They are authoritative,
authoritarian, and permissive parenting styles. The authoritative parenting style is described as
warmth and controlled when solving problems. Next, authoritarian parenting style is described as
parents who have all the control and power. “Authoritarian parents place firm and sometimes
unpredictable rules and expect children to follow them without question based on their fear of
punishment” (Bassett, J. F., Snyder, T. L., Rogers, D. T., & Collins, C.). Last, permissive
parenting style is when the parents have less control but give their children warmth and comfort.
The scenario provided was that Mary and Paul had a difficult time with their first child when

the child is going to grow up as. Different parenting styles all have different effects on a child’s
life. If the authoritative parenting style was used by Mary and Paul, they would have limits for
