Child and Adolescent Development.
This paper will be discussing the development of child and adolescent development over
time. The period of time when a child is transitioning from their childhood to becoming an adult
is called adolescence. The individuals that are transitioning throughout this phase will
experience many different and rapid changes during this part of their lives. The term child
and adolescent are what is used to describe the changes for these individuals. For this paper I will
describe the five different studies and theoretical perspectives of child and adolescent
development.
The Development of Children and Adolescents.
In the early 1700s, Charles Darwin started the study of child and adolescent development.
He began by recording information such as cognitive, motor, sensory, and language skills for
infants and toddlers. As time progressed scientists began to go in-depth on the development of
children and adolescents, they began to learn more about the differences between nature and
nurture bonds. This term nature versus nurture was a term coined by scientists to describe the
bond more in-depth (Matorell at al, 2013). Researchers and scientists believe that the way a child
develops and grows is due to the way it is raised by its parents. Characteristics that are passed
down to children from their parents would be agreeableness as well as emotionally stability.
Parents also can pass down the possibility of a positive outlook on life that children will inherit
by tradition. Researchers believe that parents' personalities will be able to dictate as well as
predict the coming future of the adolescent's personality (Schofield et al, 20120. Studies have
shown that the development of science and technology is important for the development of
