Respiratory/inhalation anthrax: -fever, malaise, nonproductive cough, sweats, chest

children- cipro 30mg/kg q 8hrs
Oropharyngeal anthrax: -fever with unilateral or bilateral swelling

-Inhalation- low infection
-unpasteurized dairy products
S/s: fever, anorexia, headache myalgias, arthralgias, severe fatigue, hepatosplenomegaly
-spondylitis

Tx:
->10 and not pregnant: docycycline 100-200 mcg/d and Rifampin 600-900 mg/d for 6 wks
-for first 14-21 days doxy + streptomycin 1g IM
Plague: -transmitted to humans by infected rodent fleas (bubonic)
-aerosol (pneumonic)
Bubonic plague: -very swollen tender lymph gland "bubo"
-fever, chills, headache,
-hx of exposure to infected rodents, rabbits, or fleas

SEVERE- Streptomycin 10mg/kg q 12hrs 7-10 days, Gentamycin 5mg/kg q 8hrs 7-10 days
MILD- doxy, cipro
Ricin: -protein toxin from beans of castor plant
Respiratory s/s: fever, cough, dyspnea, nausea, ARDs, athralgias
Ingestion s/s: necrosis of GI epithelium, local hemorrhage, hepatic, splenic, and renal necrosis
Tx:
Supportive- gastric lavage, volume replacement, ventilation and resp support
Smallpox: S/s: sudden onset of fever and malaise
