Spurling's Test
TESTING: dysfuction of cervical nerve root
POSITION: sitting, head side bent to uninvolved side, apply pressure through head straight
down, repeat with head bent toward involved
(+) TEST: pain and/or paresthesia in dermatomal pattern

Bell's Palsey
snesorineural hearing loss causes
congenital and hereditary conditions, viral infections, Meniere's disease, noise exposure,
ototoxic drug exposure, and acoustic neuromas
Weber test with tuning fork
In unilateral conductive hearing loss, the sound is heard in the impaired ear. In unilateral
sensorineural hearing loss, the sound is heard in the good ear
Rinne test with tuning fork
normal: sound is heard longer through air than bone
Grading Muscle Strength
o 0: No visible muscle contraction
o 1: Visible muscle contraction with no or trace movement
o 2: Limb movement, but not against gravity
o 3: Movement against gravity but not resistance
o 4: Movement against at least some resistance supplied by the examiner
o 5: Full strength
corneal light reflex
also known as the Hirschberg test, assesses parallel alignment; have pt look straight ahead,
shine light from 12" and look for reflection on corneas in exactly the same position in both eyes;
asymmetry indicates deviation in alignment from eye muscle weakness or paralysis
