2. Bt decreased LOC
3. Pt increased BP
4. Pt is coughing (stable)
5. Pt in pain
6. Pt preoperative 7. Pt discharging
2. Pt getting general anesthesia: Ensure intubation, oxygen, and suctioning at bedside
3. What is an post removal epidural issue?: Spinal fluid headache
4. Fluid may leak out during an?: Epidural removal
5. Epidural treatment?: 1. Lay pt flat (take pressure off spine)
2. Administer medication for headache
3. Call anesthesia
6. How much time do you have between giving medication and intubating?: About 1
minute
7. Priority for post-op regarding breathing?: Ensure open airway (monitor breathing)
8. Resuscitation equipment?: 1. Oxygen
2. Suctioning
3. Intubation
4. Ventilator
5. Bag
9. Postop positioning can cause?: Nerve pinching
10. Pt has been removed from intubation, pt wants to eat?: Call speech therapy.
Make sure that pt has swallowed

do patients remove hearing aids?: They can fall out and they're too expensive to
replace
17. Nursing responsibilities preop?: 1. Education
2. Check vitals/labs

o Chlorhexidine mouth rinse
5. May start fluids
6. Place IV (large gauge)
18. Preop required for all female patients?: Pregnancy test
19. Preop pt: · If pt is anxious, give therapeutic communication?: Tell them it is
normal to be nervous
20. What medication do you hold before surgery?: blood thinners
21. Blood thinner medication patient education: 1. Stop 24-48hrs before
2. Takes 7-10 days for aspirin to wear off
3. Warfarin, Heparin, Lovenox
