Definition
MOA: use with carbidopa-levodopa in early stages of the
disease.
Uses : causes an increase in the level of dopamine
stimulation in the CNS--> counter the dopamine deficiency
with the disease
Adverse effects:
-dizziness, headache, insomnia, hypotension, confusion,
impulse control disorders
Contraindications:
-avoid tyramine containing foods (aged cheese, sausage, beer,
wine)
-dont use with meperidine and other opioids like tramado,
cyclobenzaprine, dextromorphan
-no use with other MAOIs
-no antidepressants
-can all result in serotonin syndrome
-carbamazepine can cause toxicity of selegiline
