Introduction – Provide an overview of the concept of population vulnerability and specifically identify a vulnerable population you will examine. Be sure to identify the sections of the paper and provide a minimum of one scholarly support. 4. Concept Map Overview – Describe the vulnerable population explaining a minimum of three variables placing the population at risk. Describe one population health risk or disparity experienced by the population and discuss the interrelationships between all the elements portrayed on the concept map. Be sure to provide citations to support your thoughts. 5. Implications for Advanced Nursing Practice – propose one strategy for the MSN-prepared nurse to advocate for this vulnerable population at the local, state, or national level – be sure to specify the level. Explain how the proposed strategy aligns with the national population health goal or objective related to the identified risk or disparity such as one of the Healthy People 2030 initiatives. 6. Conclusion – Provide a summary providing detail regarding the the relationships between the risk factors and vulnerability and the role of MSN-prepared nurses in advocating for vulnerable populations.

Homeless Population in Okaloosa County, Florida


Vulnerable populations refer to a group of individuals who are at a higher risk of

experiencing adverse health outcomes due to various factors (Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention, 2022). Vulnerable populations often have limited access to resources and face

barriers in healthcare. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2022), there

are six categories to consider when identifying vulnerable populations: socioeconomic status,

age, gender, race and ethnicity, English proficiency, and medical disabilities. This paper will

examine the homeless population of Okaloosa County, Florida. This paper will include an

overview of the concept map, implications of advanced nursing practice, and a conclusion.

Concept Map Overview

The vulnerable population discussed is the homeless population of Okaloosa County,

Florida. The concept map visually represents the interconnected aspects related to the homeless

population. Homelessness has multiple causes, such as unemployment, lack of affordable

housing, substance abuse and addiction, mental illness, and other individual factors. Homeless

individuals have limited access to healthcare, which leads to acute and chronic health conditions

and increasing morbidity and mortality. Homeless individuals are exposed to environmental

factors and are often involved in violent situations, including physical and sexual abuse.

Homelessness and unemployment are often interconnected and can exacerbate each

other. According to One Okaloosa Economic Development Council (2023), in October of 2023,

Okaloosa County had an unemployment rate of 2.8%. When individuals lose their jobs or

experience prolonged unemployment, they struggle to meet their financial obligations, such as
