A greater contractile force allows greater volumes of blood be pushed from the heart with each beat Change in afterload - Can contribute to a decrease in total peripheral resistance. As aerobic exercise intensity increases from a resting state to a maximal exercise, there is a reduction in peripheral resistance due to the vasodilation that occurs in an effort to supply working skeletal muscle with blood Myocardial contractibility - Responds to exercise in a positive manner and increases stroke volume. Because of the venous return to the heart (increasing filling), the Frank-Starling mechanism causes the contractibility of the heart to increase Lactic threshold - The point at which the body switches from the use of fat as the predominant fuel source to the use of carbohydrates. Also the point at which the body switches from the use of aerobic energy processes to rely more on anaerobic energy sources Sympathoadrenal response - More of a reaction from both the sympathetic nervous system and the adrenal medulla than from just the adrenal medulla alone Wolff's law - States that bone, which adapts according to the applied stresses, will be laid down where needed Myoglobin - The oxygen-carrying molecules in the muscle
