This paper consists of five (5) pages.

3. You are allowed to access your prescribed works and the study material (this is an open-
book examination). You are, however, not allowed to copy verbatim from your study material. You
should provide answers in your own words. In the case of any cheating or plagiarism, no mark will be
allocated.
4. Students must upload their answer scripts in a single PDF file on the official myExams platform
(answer scripts must not be password protected or uploaded as "read-only" files). The University only
marks one (1) submission received from a student. Priority is granted to scripts received via the
myExams platform.
Additional student exam instructions:

are submitting is their own, by ticking the honesty declaration box when submitting their answer scripts.
Students suspected of dishonest conduct during the examinations will be subjected to disciplinary

According to Higgs and Letseka (2022, p. 9), “Much of the history of Africa has been dominated
by colonial occupation. Colonialism in Africa provided the framework for the organised
subjugation of the cultural, scientific and economic life of many on the African continent.”
Explain, in what ways education in Africa became colonialised. In your response, provide an
evaluation of whether education is still colonised today. (10)
QUESTION 2
In a diverse and multicultural country such as South Africa, the interaction between an
Afrocentric and Eurocentric approach towards valid knowledge needs continual displacement
to ensure that neither obtains a dominant position.
Discuss the impact that the integration of knowledge systems in an Indigenous African
Knowledge Systems programme would have on the school curriculum in South Africa. (10)

In education, Empiricism insists that teaching and learning can only occur in those subjects
that provide humankind with ‘real knowledge’.
Discuss the implications for education in this argument. (10)
