Candidate’s material – Role-play
To be conducted by the teacher-examiner between 2 April and 17 May 2024.
Time allowed: 10–12 minutes (+ 12 minutes’ supervised preparation time)
Instructions
You must not use a dictionary at any time during the test.
Supervised preparation time (12 minutes)
Prepare this Role-play and the Photo card.
You may make notes on an Additional Answer Sheet, but you must not write on the cards.
You may refer to your notes during the Role-play and Photo card tasks.
The test (between 10 and 12 minutes)
Your first task is the Role-play (approximately 2 minutes).
Your second task is the Photo card (maximum 3 minutes).
After these two tasks, you must hand both cards and any notes you made to the teacher–examiner.
The final task is the General Conversation (approximately 5–7 minutes) based on your
chosen Theme and the Theme which has not been covered on the Photo card.
Remember: You must ask the teacher–examiner a question during the General Conversation.

The GCSE Polish Higher Tier Paper 2 Speaking exam for June 2024 is an essential part of your
Polish language assessment, focusing on your ability to communicate effectively in spoken Polish.
This exam will be conducted between 2 April and 17 May 2024 by your teacher-examiner and
includes different components, with one of the key parts being the role-play.
What is questioned in the exam:
The Speaking exam consists of the following components:
1. Role-Play (Candidate’s Material):
o In this part of the exam, you will engage in a role-play scenario where you act out a
conversation based on a situation provided by the examiner. You will receive a set
of prompts ahead of the exam to help you prepare for this task.
o During the role-play, you will need to respond to questions and prompts in Polish,
demonstrating your ability to understand the situation and engage in a conversation
appropriately.
o You might be asked to respond to a variety of topics, such as ordering food at a
restaurant, asking for directions, making plans with a friend, or discussing
your hobbies or family.
2. Conversation (General Conversation):
o Following the role-play, you will participate in a general conversation with the
examiner. The examiner will ask you questions about a wide range of topics. These
questions will assess your ability to express opinions, explain ideas, and describe
experiences. Topics may include:
Your family and friends
Your school and studies
Your hobbies and free time
Plans for the future
Travel and holidays
Social media and technology
Environment and global issues
o You will need to answer questions in full sentences, provide detailed responses, and
use varied vocabulary and grammar structures to showcase your proficiency in
Polish.

Instructions to candidates
Your teacher will play the part of the shop assistant and will speak first.
You should address the shop assistant as Pan / Pani.
When you see this – ! – you will have to respond to something you have not prepared.
