Curriculum Planning through Module Design

Introduction

Module design is a multi-step process that requires careful, well-thought-out

planning to ensure optimal student learning. Applying the ADDIE model, considering

learning theories and styles, and utilizing evidence-based resources and active learning

strategies are equally crucial to ensuring that all align with the learning outcomes for the

module, course, and program. When delving into this process, the educator’s

responsibility extends beyond those considerations by factoring in the learners’

preferences, environment, and weekly time allotted to the course. While meeting

outcomes, course content and learning activities should be intellectually stimulating and

engage students in their learning experience. The experience and effectiveness can be

evaluated by students and peers to improve the course further as time passes.

Application of the ADDIE Model to Module Design

Module and Learning Activity Planning

ADDIE Model

The ADDIE model was utilized to guide the design and development of both

modules in the template. This narrative portion will focus on Module Two, “Natural

Disasters and Emergency Preparedness.” This module was created to meet the course

outcomes of a baccalaureate-level community health nursing course in an in-person

setting. It equips students with skills to assess, plan, and respond effectively to public

health threats during natural disasters and recognizes the importance of emergency

planning in advance.
