, A. Gather the curriculum map or curriculum materials for a
concept or unit of instruction in the prior, current and next
grade level in your subject area and then do the following:
1. Describe the curriculum, including the following:
• Current grade or level
• Concept or unit of instruction
• Standards that correspond to the previous grade or
level
• Standards that correspond to the current grade or
level
• Standards that correspond to the next grade or level
The standard that I have selected to focus on, are standards in
ELA for grade 6. I have selected Vocabulary. According to the B.E.S.T.
Standards for Florida, the vocabulary standard should “Integrate
academic vocabulary appropriate to grade level in speaking and
writing.” (2020). This means that the vocabulary taught should flow
from one grade to the next so that the students can use words
learned accompanied with new words learned. The following are the
vocabulary standards for the corresponding grade.
5th Grade Vocabulary Standard: ELA.5. V.1. Finding meaning
classifications: Grade-level vocabulary consists of words that are
likely to appear across subject areas for the current grade level and
beyond, vital to comprehension, and critical for instruction. (FL,
2020).
6th Grade Vocabulary Standard: ELA. 6. V.1. Finding meaning
