Empathize
A. Explain how to implement the process of empathy in the design thinking process in the
chosen scenario, including any additional information to better understand the situation and
from whom or where the needed information could be found.
While SmokyWoods may wish to build a large roller coaster, it is important that we place
ourselves in the customers’ shoes and determine what would best serve their wants and
needs. A great way to do this would be to ask the customer themselves (Design thinking for
microservices, n.d.). However, according to the provided background, this has already been
done with mixed results. Some customers stated they would like larger, more thrilling rides.
Other customers said they preferred that the park was more family oriented. Since asking the
customers directly did not provide a clear answer, we should gather more insight from the
customers’ stories. According to the background provided, SmokyWoods attendees consists
primarily of “families with younger children.” If I were a parent bringing my younger
children to an amusement park, I would prefer to go to an amusement park that is as safe and
enjoyable for my children as possible. Additionally, it’s important to recognize that taking an
entire family to an amusement park is a costly activity. If I were making the financial
decision to take my family to an amusement park, I would likely prefer an amusement park
that has a variety of activities and rides that my family can enjoy.
