Key Club Caucus Questions & Answers What encouraged you to run for this position? Previously being the secretary's assistant for the year, I've learned a lot and want to put my knowledge to use and make a great year for the rest of MTKC. I've also had a great mentor to guide me through this journey and amazing peers who cheered me on this year. Why is the key club structure shaped as an inverted pyramid? Key Club adopts the inverted pyramid, in which the members are the highest governing body, while the District Board and International are the lowest. What is one major goal you wish to accomplish, if elected to serve in this position? I want to strive to show my best work ethics when handling with MTKC's information. I wish to be on top of things and not worry about due dates, meaning quality work will be completed in a timely manner, making it easier for our club. Who says, "abooga" and who says "unga"? abooga - Kiwanis, unga - Nevada How has key Club shaped the way you view community service? For me, Key Club has made a solid structure in the way I view community service. It made me see that community service is less "service" and more "community". It's never a drag to go to events, if you ask me. I'm just glad to see how we can make an impact as a club and a community at Monterey Trail. Who is our current District Administrator? Doug Gin How will you encourage and motivate your members? I will encourage and motivate my members by showing enthusiasm and professionalism when presenting myself and possibly even inform them on things they didn't know about Key Club. There's a lower chance of member encouragement and motivation of members of the people they look up to aren't encouraged and motivated themselves. Analisa Viloria because she guided me and helped me through Secretary work this year and gave me the skills to bring me here today. Name the branches of the Kiwanis family. K-Kids, Builder's Club, Key Club, Circle K International, Aktion Club, (and Kiwanis international) What is one area of improvement for the club you serve and how will you address it? An area of improvement for the club I serve is fulfilling the place of my secretary for when she is unable to attend events and needs me to take her place. I will address this problem by being a reliant person and make sure I am there for her. What is your favorite part of District Convention? Well, I haven't attended District Convention yet, but I plan to attend this year! I am excited to meet new people and experience the bittersweet moments to come~ What does service mean to you? Ironically, service isn't really service to me at all. It's the gathering of a community striving to make it a better place. What is the address of the CNH District office? 2772 Constitution Dr # A, Livermore, CA 94551 How will you increase Kiwanis family bonds? Possibly starting more service projects with them. We have interclubs with fellow division clubs and with EHMS' Builders Club but we can expand on that next year including other branches of Kiwanis International. If you could choose any mascot and color for a division, what would they be? I would choose our mascot to be the cougars and the color would be crimson BECAUSE the cougar symbolizes leadership and courage while crimson represents power and love and I believe those are important components of any division. In your opinion, what is the most important quality a leader should have? I think the most important quality a leader should have is to be caring because if a leader who doesn't care about who or what they lead, they shouldn't be a leader at all. What are the "key" letters in ELIMINATE and why are they important? MNT - it's an abbreviation for maternal tetanus , a disease we try to "eliminate" through key club How will you increase member attendance at meetings? Possibly have Club raffles every week. Another club here at MT uses this skill well. They make members sign there name in for a raffle each meeting they attend and a name is pulled every week. The more you attend, the higher chance you have of winning a raffle prize! Maybe we can reward a student from each class for having the most club/service hours. Just the small things to keep people coming back. Do you think it is important to hold a previous office in Key Club before running for a position? Yes and no; It's greatly beneficial if you've previously had a position and know the ropes and strings of what your position demands but if you don't have a position already and make yourself familiar with what the position you run for and you're confident with your abilities to run, why not go for it? What were the district goals for ? 46,000 members; 800,000 service hours; $154,000 for PTP What are some ideas you have to increase communication? We can start communication through the Club first by putting members in more situations where they have to communicate. Possibly have assigned seats at some meetings and make them involved with communicating activities. We can increase more division and branch communications by doing more events with them and doing the same there. How will you handle criticism? Identify criticism as a temporary thing. Everyone will get criticism in their life and all you have to do is focus at the task at hand. Work and don't worry. If you spend all your time working you won't have time to worry about criticisms but if you spend all your time worrying, you'll have no time to work. So work. Don't worry. As of today, how many divisions are in CNH? 74 How will you recognize outstanding members? As we already have monthly member recognition, maybe we can add more class recognitions. We have general member recognition and board member recognition but maybe we can add one for each grade within the general members. Not only will they be recognized for their hard work, it can motivate other members to strive for those awards. But that is only possible if we are able to make that many awards. Where does your biggest source of motivation come from? My biggest source of motivation comes from the satisfaction from my peers, community, and self. Fortunately, I have an amazing community around me at school that cheer me on. I love to help out my secretary when she needs it because how she is so thankful for me and my fellow secretary assistant to be there for her just makes my day. All of that positivity from my surroundings just keeps me going. What is the name of the international Vice President? Daniel Vigneron How will you increase club spirit? We can increase Club spirit by possibly dedicating a meeting to spirit. Most newcomers believe key club is just community service and we can inform them more about spirit-based events. Show them videos on different events to hype them up and let them know how key Club is more than just service How will you increase Club unity? I feel like a successful way to unite a club is by food. A club potluck or get-together over a weekend would be great for unifying our club, in my opinion. Waffle cakes is another great way but I feel like if we held an event that didn't have time or money constraints, more people could enjoy it! Is family and friends or school and work more important? If I'm being honest, I'd have to say school and work are more important. But that doesn't mean to completely cut them off, of course. I just feel it's more important to get work done before getting to relax. How will you effectively voice the concerns of the club you serve? I feel like one thing we can utilize in order to get everyone's opinions out there is an anonymous suggestion box. Not all key clubbers are extroverts so I feel like a suggestion box is a way we can improve our club for all, even those who are just a bit on the quiet side. How can social media hurt or positively influence a division? Social media can hurt a division because anything can easily be said without thought on social media and a single message can tamper with the reputation of a division. It can positively influence a division by showing a division's feats and achievements, showing what that division is capable of. They may also utilize social media for communication purposes. Why would being elected for this position be important to you? Being elected for this position is important to me because it confirms my capability to do something.. anything. I just to prove to myself and people who doubted me that I can do something. I want to do better for all that I can while having that confirmation. If you are not elected, what are your plans as a key clubber? I plan to apply to be on the extended board again. I want to improve my skills and try again the following year.
