, Everyone has a skill set that is unique to them. We all have things we are good at and
things that we excel at. When an employer is looking for a new employee, they look at
numerous things that go beyond one’s resume. They also look at hard and soft skills that make
up a person’s repertoire. These responses can show whether or not a person is a good fit for
that particular company. Not only do the questions narrow it down to the best candidates, but
they also lead to finding the best match for specific clients. Without asking these types of
questions, it could be a guessing game of who will be the better employee.
Most Important Functioning Skills for Potential Employees
Numerous skills are essential for potential employees. The most important skill is
response inhibition. This refers to one’s ability to control their responses to distractions or
stimulations around them. The next most important skill is working memory. Without working
memory, it would prove impossible to hold onto relevant information.
Another necessary skill is sustained attention (the ability to focus over time). Oftentimes,
there will be assignments that require a whole day’s worth of focus. Task initiation is all about
getting started. The next skill is organization. Organization means being capable of creating
order out of chaos. Lastly, the perspective employee needs to have flexibility and time
management skills.
How to Assess an Employee’s Executive Functioning Skills
Executive functioning skills are a necessity in the workplace. They are complex abilities
that enable one to identify goals, undergo mental planning, behavior organization, and
planning actions to achieve said goals. Executive functioning skills impact motivational,
affective-emotional, and social skills. This system is activated while one learns through language
