this tutorial letter, we wish to inform you that Unisa has implemented a transformation charter based on five pillars and eight dimensions. In response to this charter, we have also placed curriculum transformation high on the agenda. For your information, curriculum transformation includes the following pillars: student-centred scholarship, the pedagogical renewal of teaching and assessment practices, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the infusion of African epistemologies and philosophies. These pillars and their principles will be integrated at both the programme and module levels, as a phased-in approach. You will notice the implementation thereof in your modules, and we encourage you to fully embrace these changes during your studies at Unisa. 1 INTRODUCTION AND WELCOME The lecturers for LLB Research Report (RRLLB81) would like to extend a warm word of welcome to all students currently registered for this module. We hope that you will find the research both rewarding and enriching. This module follows on from the third-year level module for the LLB, namely Legal Research Methodology (LME3701). Whereas LME3701 prepared you for the writing of a research proposal, RRLLB81s outcome is the drafting and submission of a FULL research report. Therefore, please note that the outcomes of LME3701 and RRLLB81 are DIFFERENT. Tutorial Letter 102/3/2021 contains further study material for this module. Tutorial Letter 103/3/2021 contains the topics for Assignment 02 and Assignment 03, and instructions for doing those assignments. NOTE: The pre-requisite for this module is that you MUST have completed LME3701 first as LME3701 forms the foundation for the final research report which is the outcome for RRLLB81. It is important that you start preparing for this module early in the semester in order to ensure the successful completion of your research report. This tutorial letter contains valuable information and we advise you to keep it nearby whenever working on the module, when preparing assignments and the final Portfolio, and addressing questions to the lecturers. We would like to point out that you must read all the tutorial letters you receive during the semester immediately, as they always contain important (and sometimes also urgent) information. Be advised that myUnisa, on which we upload the study material and tutorial letters as soon as they are available, is a valuable source of information. Consult this resource as often as possible. RRLLB81 is a capstone module. As the word suggests, a capstone course is meant to represent a student's definitive achievement in a degree programme. The capstone course is typically defined as a crowning course or experience coming at the end of a sequence of modules with the specific objective of integrating a body of relatively fragmented knowledge into a unified whole. This capstone course is aimed at assessing both theoretical and practical knowledge, to help you identify valid and important questions in a particular field, provide you with the opportunity to evaluate the interaction and interrelatedness of the subcategories of a field, and open your minds to the fact that there may be more than one approach to every © Only Students - D.N stuvia. 5 problem. RRLLB81/101/3/2021 5 It is seen as a conclusion of the LLB degree. As a rite of passage, this course provides an experience through which undergraduate students both look back over their undergraduate curriculum in an effort to make sense of that experience and look forward to a career which builds thereon. A capstone course also demands your active INDEPENDENT participation in order to facilitate your own learning and to enhance your understanding of the field that you are attempting to master. Capstone courses allow educators to assess various crucial aptitudes and capacities for learning, which are not as easily evaluated by conventional means such as written tests or examinations. By their nature capstone courses involve problem-based learning environments designed to develop students' ability to solve problems by identifying the problem in question, conducting research, designing and implementing a solution, and developing field-specific knowledge and lifelong learning skills. Therefore, our approach to your learning in this module is practical and requires you to apply skills garnered during your earlier years of study. When you register for this module, it is assumed that you have already mastered basic research, writing and analytical skills. 2 PURPOSE AND OUTCOMES
